Sankara Eye Foundation (SEF) is a non-profit organization based in London. SEF is dedicated to provide free community eye care through its affiliate, Sankara Eye Care Institutions in India.
SEF's mission is to achieve 20/20 for all by 2020. Launched in the year 2004. SEF is run entirely by a group of committed volunteers.
SEF aims to actively support the free eye surgeries at Sankara Eye Centre in India, by raising funds through events, booths and through individual donors. Also, donors can sponsor specific programs such as open eye a month. |
Natya Drishti”- A Fusion dance ballet in aid of eye care for the needy took place in September 2005 at The Bhavan in West Kensington, London. It successfully raised £11,062 to help in particular with the construction of the Sanakara Eye hospital in Shimoga.
The program featured well-acclaimed dancers such as, Geetha Sridhar and Gauri Sharma Tripathi: both alumni of the prestigious Kalakshethra dance school in Chennai. They performed popular styles of North Indian classical dance known as Kathak, to those found in South India, as well as a dance celebrating Lord Krishna with an informative narrative.
“The Blue Room Event”- SEF Europe hosted a black tie charity dinner and dance in Wembley in May 2006. The night included an ‘Auction of Promise’ with winners receiving signed Chelsea football shirts, valuable oil paintings and a sought after Indian team signed cricket bat. A raffle draw, a presentation of the Sankara Eye Foundation and a flavorsome Indian menu were praised by those who attended the event.
So far this event has raised £22,000 for the erection of the eye hospital in Gujarat.
