To Organise Eye Camp

By partaking in this mission for vision you would be indirectly helping those in your community unable to have access to the latest in eye care either due to economic or geographic constraints.

Our partner in eye care could be an individual or voluntary social service organisation - such as Lions, Rotary, religious groups, industries, trusts, banks, hospitals, rural service organisations, recreation clubs, farmers associations, panchayat presidents. An interest in the community is what we look for in them.

We invite you to visit our facility at Coimbatore for you to acquaint yourself with our procedure and to help you plan the camp. We would allot you a date for a camp preferably on a Saturday or a Sunday.

Publicity

For successful fulfillment of an eye camp adequate publicity is required this could be done either through mike announcements, handbills, posters etc. A door to door survey could be carried out to identify those visually defective in a surrounding area of around 15 kilometers.

All printed material should clearly indicate the date and venue of the camp, cosponsoring agencies and that the patients would be taken to "Sankara Eye Centre, Coimbatore", if they require surgical procedures. The material should preferably be printed in the vernacular language.

Hospitality

A team comprising medical and paramedical staff along with a camp orgnaniser and a patient counselor would travel to the camp site to reach a day prior. Hotel accommodation should be arranged at a comfortable location. The local organiser would also require to provide hygienic food for the team during its stay.

Venue Arrangements
  • A school will be ideal for the camp. A minimum of 6 Rooms required. Minimum furniture would be required.

  • 5 tables, 15 chairs (min.) and some long benches are required.

  • 20 volunteers for registration and patients help would help in the smooth conduct of the camp.

  • Drinking water facility should be provided.

  • Toilet facility should be provided for both ladies & gents patients separately.

  • This would help us test the patients for sugar in the urine and thereby detect Diabetics.

Transportation

We would take care of all travel arrangements for the team of medical personnel from Sankara Eye Centre.
The patients would be transported to the base hospital in batches. We have buses to transport them to our hospital. In case of campsites outside the state of Tamil Nadu alternate arrangements would have to be made to transport the selected patients either through private buses or by train.
