The Gift of Vision Outreach eye care programme of Sankara is a comprehsive programme treating patient with eye ailments. The benificiaries are operated for cataract, glaucoma, corneal diseases or retinal ailments as diagnosed. Sankara also carries out one of the widest preventive eye care programmes for children. This year we hope to screen 400000 children for eye ailments

This month was again marked by the celebration at Sankara Eye Hospital, Bangalore celebrating its 4th anniversary. Paediatric now features as a 2 page spread with information on common eye diseases in children. “Re-view” continues to grow and flourish as it looks to travel many more miles showcasing the achievement and activities of Sankara Community Outreach Team.

This was again a begining of another new year – the financial new year which marks the beginning of the calendar year for Sankara activity wise. The highlight of the month was the inauguration of our 9th hospital. The 1st outreach screening camp was conducted in Raikot. While one hospital was just opening its eye to the world, another one of Sankara’s hospital in Guntur celebrated its 8th Foundation day. A good news for the entire Sankara family was the initiation of the new Paediatric Program

Sankara eye care institutions was widely represented at a 3 day conference cum exhibition organised by NGO India and UBM at Epicenter, Gurgaon on 16 - 18 March 2012. Elsewhere in Riskesh the Nirmal Ashram Eye Institute celebrated World Glaucoma Week in full pomp and glory. With our routine work, we continue to touch lives in many way than one. While firecrackers and merriment brought in the new year, many from our team across the country were busy in reaching out to the unreached and marginalized with a sincere wish of giving them the “Gift of Vision”. Be it celebrating the Road Safety week at Rishikesh to helping old Subramanian learn positive lesson in life or welcoming new members in to our family in the form of new outreach administrator at Ludhiana, the spirit of Sankara was everywhere to be felt, celebrated and rejoiced.

The highlight of the month was a national level workshop on “Program Management and Leadership Development” for all the Outreach administrators of our various units. It was first of its kind to be conducted and helped the participants appreciate and learn new nuances of management and leadership.

The month marked the celebration of the World Diabetes Day across the Sankara network. “Re-view” brings to you the activities especially carried out in Sankara Eye Centre, Coimbatore. Also read on the story of Devabhai on how he was given a vision for life by Sankara.

The month saw the visit of a great visionary, thought leader and the former president of India Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Seeing the work of the Outreach and the way it touches the lives of the poor, He exclaimed “This is the temple, the temple of service”…

The Newsletter, ’re-view’ for the Community Outreach Department at Sankara formally started on the 15th of Aug, 2010 and has successfully completed 1 year of its existence. The infancy year of ‘Re-view’ saw it undergo a multitude of changes as it learnt to crawl, sit, stand and try to walk in its attempt to leave a mark for itself. What started as a one page brief capturing the monthly update of outreach activities has since then gone on to become a 2 page colourful collage
