The ophthalmic surgeons at Sankara provide surgical and  educational services with the primary objective of restoring sight to the disadvantaged blind individuals worldwide.

“GIFT OF SIGHT” - Cambodia
A programme executed with Rotary Club of Singapore for the benefit of the people of Cambodia.

Eye surgeons from Sankara Eye Center, Coimbatore went over to Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, established a surgical theatre in a local mission hospital performed hundred surgeries and also trained the Cambodian eye surgeons in modern micro surgery.

On a request of the Government of Nepal and invited by erstwhile ruler,HH King Birendra on the occasion of his 50th birthday, a team of eye doctors and support staff were deputed from Sankara Centre.

During their week long stay there they operated on 100 patients and treated hundreds more.


“BHARATIYAM” – reaching out to rest of India

India is a land of diversity. It is a land of deserts, snow clad mountains, of tropical forests and placid lakes. The cultural heritage and diversity is unlike that seen anywhere else in the world. However India is also home to almost 5 million blind. Celebrating the joy of being "Indian", and to share our expertise in the field of ophthalmology , Sankara Eye Centre organised with fellow volunteer organisations surgical eye camps in various parts of India since 2002.

“BHARATIYAM” – reaching out to rest of India

Ophthalmologists from Sankara screened deserving patients and operated at a hospital at the camp site thereby not compromising on hygiene or quality. The satisfaction to the service meted out is evident from that we have been approached for further collaboration in other parts of the country.


Capacity Building – Nigeria

Ever since 2004 Sankara has shared a unique relationship with this African country. Initial guidance was providedby Sankara Eye Centre in establishing community eye care facilities there. In association with the Tulsi trust doctors trained and deputed from Sankara Eye Centre, sight is provided to 1000’s each year. The institution is also looking to train surgeons and provide benchmarks and guidelines to help the nation rid its burden of curable blindness.


Lumie're - Seychelles

Lumie're - SeychellesSeychelles is a tourist’s paradise with immaculate, uncrowded beaches of powder soft white sands. Unfortunately it has a very high percentage of its population with curable blindness.

A large proportion of the visually impaired suffer from cataract, glaucoma and diabetic eye disease.

Sankara Eye Care Institutions was requested a team adept at high volume quality eye care to help the Government of Seychelles tide over this precarious health problem.

Sankara deputed a team of 2 eye surgeons who during the course of their stay there performed 107 surgeries, dispensed over 350 prescription glasses and completed over 950 consultations.

President His Excellency James Michel, appreciated the gesture of Sankara Eye Care Institutions India and commended the work of our surgeons.

He hoped for a permanent relationship with the Sankara Eye Care Institutions where we would help establish protocols and procedures and would regularly depute personnel to target specific eye ailments.
